Transferring RAMs between principal investigators
Who is this article for?
Users and system admins who transfer radioactive material inventory between principal investigators.
No elevated permissions are required to initiate or accept transfers unless restricted by site settings.
This article explains how users initiate and accept radioactive material transfers, including permission settings, warnings, and transfer history.
1. RAM Action: Transfer
Transfers allow radioactive material inventory to move from one principal investigator to another. Transfer visibility and permissions can be configured by administrators.
- Allow general users to initiate transfers
- Setting: edit settings, rad, show RAM transfer.
- Allow system admins and RSOs to manage transfers from data manager
- Setting: edit settings, rad, show RAM transfer in data manager.
- This provides tighter administrative control over isotope movement between research groups or departments.
2. Initiating a transfer
From the radioactive materials inventory, select the transfer icon. The inventory transfer history window opens.
To initiate a transfer:
- Select a receiving owner (principal investigator) from the dropdown.
The system checks:
- Whether the receiving principal investigator has an appropriate permit.
- Whether the permit has enough remaining allowed activity.
If either condition is not met, a warning message appears. The text of this warning can be configured under edit settings, rad, RAM transfer warning text.
The transfer history section lists all transfers for that isotope and can be exported.
3. Accepting a transfer
To accept incoming inventory, the receiving principal investigator or system administrator navigates to the radioactive materials inventory from latch or data manager and selects Inventory transfer request.
The receiving user can accept or reject each pending transfer.
