Submitting a waste pickup for in-lab containers
Who is this article for?
General users (PIs and lab staff) who request waste pickups for their in‑lab containers.
Pickup request options depend on system configuration.
General users can request a pickup for containers stored in their lab. These requests notify the RSO and appear in the Pickup Schedule for processing.
1. Submit a waste pickup request
From the Waste tab, where users see their containers, the PI clicks the Pickup icon for a container they own.
The Waste Pickup Request window opens.
1.1. Enter pickup request details
- Desired pickup date
1.2. Configure desired pickup date availability
This option is controlled by: Click Edit Settings, then click Waste, then select Show Desired Pickup Date for LATCH Waste.
If set to Yes, the PI may request a specific date within rules set by the administrator. If set to No, a general request is submitted and the RSO selects the pickup date.
1.3. Additional pickup request settings
- Default lead time for waste pickup – Minimum number of days from today that can be selected.
- Allowed pickup request days – Days of the week available for selection.
- Contact name – Name of the requester.
- Contact phone – Phone number.
1.4. Require contact phone
This requirement is controlled by: Click Edit Settings, then click Waste, then select Contact Phone (Waste Pickup Request).
1.5. Select a storage location
Location – Requested storage location for the container once removed from the lab.
Storage locations are configured by clicking Edit Settings, then clicking RAD, then selecting Radiation Waste Storage Locations.
2. Select containers for pickup
Use the dropdown to add containers owned by this PI.
2.1. Actions for each selected container
- Remove – Remove the container from the request (red trash icon).
- View contents – View container contents (magnifying glass icon).
- Edit container code – Update the container identifier.
- Print RAD waste label – Generate a PDF label.
- Enter container weight – Log the container’s weight.
2.2. Enable barcode label printing
Controlled by: Click Edit Settings, then click RAD, then select Show Barcode Label Printing for Waste Containers?
2.3. Require weight entry
Controlled by: Click Edit Settings, then click Waste, then select Weight Entry (Waste Pickup Request).
3. Request supplies (optional)
If enabled, users may request additional supplies as part of the pickup request. Supply options are configured separately (see Configure Waste Supplies).
4. After submitting the request
Once submitted, the request notifies the RSO and appears in the Pickup Schedule for processing.
4.1. Additional actions from the PI’s Waste tab
- View contents – View container contents.
- Update – Modify an active pickup request.
- Print label – Print a RAD waste label with barcode and contents (if enabled).
