Accessing and understanding the purpose of chemical profiles
Who is this article for?
Administrators who want to learn how to access and understand the purpose of chemical profiles.
Administrator permissions are required.
The Chemical Profiles feature serves as your organisation's master library of chemical reference data, storing standardised information such as hazards, regulatory codes, and storage requirements that automatically apply to matching containers in your inventory.
1. Understanding the purpose of chemical profiles
Each profile acts as a centralised template that ensures data accuracy, regulatory compliance, and consistent hazard communication across the entire platform. By managing profiles centrally, administrators maintain standardised information that automatically applies to all matching containers in your inventory.
For example, if the Acetone profile includes flammability data and NFPA ratings, any new Acetone container automatically inherits these details—saving time and preventing inconsistent hazard information across sites.
2. Recognising industry applications
Chemical profiles support various industries with specific use cases:
- Academia – Maintain consistent hazard data for shared lab chemicals used by multiple Principal Investigators (PIs), ensuring unified reporting and reducing confusion during inspections
- Manufacturing – Keep NFPA ratings, GHS classifications, and regulatory codes current for all process chemicals, supporting accurate audit records and compliance documentation
- Construction – Track flammables, corrosives, and VOCs stored at job sites, promoting proper segregation and reducing storage risks
- Industry/R&D – Centralise data for proprietary compounds or specialised handling requirements, improving control over sensitive or custom materials
3. Accessing chemical profiles
To access chemical profiles, follow these steps:
- Go to Data Manager, then select Catalog, then choose Chemical Profile.
4. Managing chemical profiles
As an administrator, you can perform the following actions:
- Create New Profiles – Add new chemicals not yet in the system
- Edit Existing Profiles – Update properties, hazards, or regulatory data when standards change
- View Change Logs – Review updates through audit trails for traceability and compliance
- Mark Profiles as Vetted – Confirm that all data has been reviewed and approved for use across the site
