Managing chemical containers
Who is this article for?
Users who need to organise the inventory table.
No special access or permissions are required.
The Chemical Inventory Dashboard provides tools to view detailed container information and add new chemical records to your inventory.
1. Viewing expanded container details
To view extended container details without leaving the main table, click the blue caret next to a container's checkbox.
The expanded view displays:
- Ownership and Location: Owner, primary user, facility, room, department
- Physical Data: Volume, concentration, chemical state
- Tracking: Lot number, receipt date, expiration date, purchase date, disposal date
- Compliance: Regulatory codes, UN numbers, permit status
- Testing: Required testing frequency, last completed date, storage time limits
- Procurement: PO number, requisition number
- Notes and Codes: Location notes, secondary codes, comments
Tip: Adjust field visibility and required status by going to Edit Settings, then selecting Chemical Inventory, then choosing Chemical Inventory Form Fields.
2. Adding chemical containers
The Add Chemical function creates new container records within the Chemical Inventory Dashboard.
To add a chemical container, select the Add Chemical option to open the Add Chemical window.
You can choose from two workflows:
- Copy from an Existing Chemical: Duplicate a container record already in the system to quickly add a similar container, inheriting its core details (such as chemical name, CAS number, and hazard data)
- Add a New Chemical from the Catalog: Create a brand-new record by selecting a chemical from your organisation's catalogue, ensuring the container is linked to standardised hazard and regulatory data stored in the chemical's profile
Note: For detailed instructions on each workflow, refer to the Adding Chemicals section of this guide.
