Viewing chemical details
Who is this article for?
Users who need to view chemical details.
Administrator role is required.
The Chemical Inventory Details view provides a comprehensive overview of all information the system holds about a specific chemical container, allowing System Administrators to review, configure, and manage captured details to maintain accurate records, meet compliance requirements, and support operational workflows.
1. Accessing container details
To access the Inventory Details view, follow these steps:
- From any inventory table view (default list or filtered results), find the container you want to inspect.
- Click the View (Eye) icon in the Actions column.
- The Inventory Details view opens, displaying all data linked to that container.
2. Reviewing catalog information
The Catalog Information section displays core chemical profile data tied to the container, this displays the fields:
- Compound Name
- CAS Number(s)
- Manufacturer
- Manufacturer Product Number
- Volume or Mass
If Antibody Data Fields are enabled go to:
- Edit Settings
- Select Chemical Inventory
- Toggle Antibody Data Fields, additional research attributes appear:
- Anti-Species
- CD Marker
- Fluorophore
- Clone
- Species Made
- Academia: Track specialised antibodies for research labs
- Manufacturing: Reference manufacturer part numbers for quick re-orders
- Industry: Confirm CAS mapping for regulatory reporting
3. Reviewing additional inventory details
The Additional Inventory Details section contains operational and administrative data about the specific container.
- Ownership and Access: Owner, Primary User, Private Status
- Physical and Chemical Data: Volume/Mass, Concentration, State (solid, liquid, gas)
- Location: Facility, Room, Department
- Tracking Data: Lot number, Receipt Date, Purchase Date, Expiration Date, Opened Date
- Lifecycle: Container Creation Date, Last Modified By, Disposal Date
- Compliance: Regulatory Codes, UN Number, Permit Status
- Controls: Testing Required/Frequency, Last Test Date, Storage Time Limits
- Procurement: PO number, Requisition number
- Notes: Location Notes, Secondary Codes, Container Comments
Tip: Adjust which fields are visible, mandatory, or optional by going to Edit Settings, then selecting Chemical Inventory, then choosing Chemical Inventory Form Fields.
4. Reviewing compound details from chemical profiles
The Compound Details section pulls information from the linked chemical profile go to:
- Data Manager
- Select Catalog
- Choose Chemical Profile.
- Compound Name and CAS Numbers
- SDS Link
- Toxicity Data
- NFPA Ratings and Hazard Codes (with pictograms)
- Academia: Ensure SDS links are in place for all instructional labs
- Manufacturing: Keep NFPA hazard coding consistent across all production chemicals
5. Reviewing external chemical information from PubChem
If enabled, PubChem integration provides reference data to support your chemical management.
- Physical Properties: Structure diagrams, molecular weight, density, vapour pressure
- Safety and Toxicity: Hazard classes, exposure limits, safety guidelines
- Usage and Regulatory: Industry applications, manufacturing processes, food additive status
- Research and Clinical: Pharmacology, biochemistry, associated diseases
- Additional Resources: Literature references, patents, vendor links
