Understanding chemical transfers and transitions
Who is this article for?
Users who need to configure a Zebra printer.
Administrator role is required.
Chemical Transfers and Chemical Transitions are two methods for moving container records between users while preserving their full tracking history.
1. Understanding the difference between transfers and transitions
Both workflows help maintain inventory accuracy and compliance, but they differ in the level of review and approval required. Use Transfers for routine ownership changes, and Transitions when additional user acknowledgement and admin approval are required.
2. Using the transfer function
The Transfer function is a straightforward workflow used to reassign a container to a new owner. This workflow is ideal for day-to-day reassignments between users, labs, or departments.
When a container is transferred:
- The receiving user only needs to accept the transfer
- Once accepted, the container is automatically added to their inventory
3. Using the transition function
The Transition function is a more controlled process used when containers move into a new owner's inventory under stricter oversight. This added review ensures safety and compliance for higher-risk or regulated materials.
When a container transitions:
- The receiving user must first complete an acceptance questionnaire to confirm they understand the container's details, hazards, and requirements
- A System Administrator must review and approve the transition before the container becomes active in the new owner's inventory
Note: The transition workflow provides additional oversight for materials requiring stricter safety and compliance controls.
