Managing lab personnel and equipment
Who is this article for?
Users who need to manage lab personnel and lab equipment.
Administrator role is required.
The Personnel and Equipment tabs allow you to manage your lab team members, their roles, and registered equipment.
1. Adding someone to the roster
To add a team member to your lab, follow these steps:
- Go to the Personnel tab at the top of the LATCH page.
- Type the person's name or email address in the Add User To Roster search box.
- Click the green + icon next to their name to add them to the list.
Note: If the person does not appear in the search results, type their email address directly and click the + button. The system will send them an invite to create an account.
2. Removing or changing roles
Once someone is on the roster, you can manage them using the icons next to their name:
- Red X icon — Removes the person from the roster
- Pencil icon — Opens the Select Roles pop-up so you can change their role
To modify a team member's role, follow these steps:
- Click the pencil icon next to their name.
- Use the dropdown to add a role (such as Lab Manager or Hazardous Waste Manager).
- Click Remove Role to take away a role.
- Click Save.
Important: When changing roles, keep in mind that permissions in other modules may be affected based on your site settings. Common roles that often require additional permissions include:
- Lab Manager
- Hazardous Waste/Chemical Manager
- Safety Delegate
- Building Coordinator
This list is not exhaustive; manage changes cautiously.
3. Setting emergency contact numbers
At the bottom of the Personnel page, you can add one or more 24-Hour Emergency Contact Numbers for your lab.
To add an emergency contact number, follow these steps:
- Click Add Phone Number.
- Fill in the details.
4. Managing lab equipment
The Equipment tab lets you view and update the equipment registered to your lab. Equipment is grouped by predefined types that are set up in the asset management area.
To add equipment to your lab, follow these steps:
- Select your Principal Investigator from the dropdown.
- Choose a room if needed.
- Pick the equipment type from the Add Equipment section.
- Click Add Asset to Lab.
