Setting up activities in hazard assessments
Who is this article for?
Users who need to edit and activity.
Administrator role is required.
Activities are the specific tasks or behaviours listed under each hazard category during an assessment, linking to hazard information, required personal protective equipment (PPE), and training requirements.
1. Adding or editing an activity
To create a new activity or modify an existing one, follow these steps:
- Click Add Activity to create a new activity, or click the pencil icon next to an existing activity to edit it.
- Complete the required fields as described in the table below.
- Click Save when finished.

| Activity Description | A clear description of the lab activity (e.g., "Use of Aqua Regia or Piranha solutions") |
| Allow User to Define Activity | Yes or No — If Yes, users can add free-text custom activities |
| Category | Select which hazard category this activity belongs to |
| Priority | Determines the order the activity appears within its category |
| Select Training | Check all training courses linked to this activity |
| Select GHS Hazard | This selection is linked to the Chemical Inventory. When a chemical with this GHS Hazard is in the room or owned by the principal investigator (PI) or Group, it is automatically included in the hazard assessment |
| Select Compound | This selection is linked to the Chemical Inventory. When this compound is in the room or owned by the PI or Group, it is automatically included in the hazard assessment |
| Info | General informational text shown to the user during assessment |
| Potential Hazards | Describe the hazards associated with this activity |
| Engineering Controls | Describe any engineering controls (e.g., fume hood use) |
| Administrative Controls | Describe administrative controls (e.g., standard operating procedures (SOPs), access restrictions) |
| Select PPE | Check all PPE items that are required by default for this activity |
| Active/Archive | Toggle whether this activity is currently visible in assessments |
