Configuring chemical disposal paths
Who is this article for?
Administrators responsible for system configuration.
Administrator role is required.
The system provides several configurable options that allow administrators to fine-tune each disposal path.
This article goes over them in more detail to help you set up robust workflows.
1. Configure a chemical disposal path
-
Select Edit Settings to navigate to the configuration settings.

-
Go to Chemical Inventory to view and manage all chemical-related settings and data.

-
Select Create Disposal Path to begin defining a new chemical disposal path and assign approvers to it.

-
Provide a clear name in the Name field to easily identify the new disposal path.

-
Use Approver Tag to search and locate a tag and select it from the dropdown. All users associated with the selected tag will be assigned as approvers for this disposal path.

-
Select Save to store and apply the new chemical disposal path configuration.

-
The new disposal path is created with the name Chemical Clean Out and includes the approver tag Chemical Disposal Authorizer who acts as the approvers for this disposal path.

-
If any updates are required, such as modifying the name or adding new approver tags, use the Edit option to make the necessary changes.

2. Path rules
Each disposal path can include rules that determine when additional steps are required:
- Approval Rules - Trigger a review by a designated approver based on specific criteria (e.g., hazard class, NFPA codes, regulation codes, DOT labels).
- Attachment Rules - Require file uploads (SDS, waste profiles, lab notes) before disposal is approved. Admins can set these as Required or Optional.
- Waste Requisition Rules - Require a Waste Requisition ID from an external WMS before disposal can proceed.
Rules can target containers based on:
- Compound - Matches specific chemical profiles.
- Hazard - Matches hazard classifications in the profile.
- NFPA - Matches NFPA hazard codes.
- Regulation Code - Matches applicable regulations.
- DOT Label - Matches transport hazard labels.
