Using bulk functions
Who is this article for?
Users needing to perform actions on multiple containers.
Bulk Function permissions are required.
Bulk functions let authorised users perform actions on multiple containers at once. This eliminates repetitive edits, speeds up updates, and ensures consistency, especially valuable in large operations or high-turnover environments.
This article explains where you can access the available bulk functions.
1. Using bulk functions
To use bulk functions:
- Go to Chemical Inventory.
- Tick the containers you want to manage.
- Open the Bulk Actions menu.
- Select a bulk function.
- Follow the on-screen prompts.
2. Available bulk functions
2.1. Bulk Edit
Update shared container details in one step.
Editable fields include:
- Location
- Department
- Primary User
- Location Notes
- Container Comments
- Temperature
- Storage Pressure
- Container Type
- WPC Activity
- Status
Example
An EHS team at a university updates storage temperature and hazard activity for all peroxide-forming chemicals before summer shutdown.
2.2. Bulk Barcode
Generate a multi-page PDF with barcodes and container details. Ideal for relabeling projects, onboarding new labs, or adding RFID/scanner tracking.
Example
A manufacturing plant prints updated barcodes for flammable liquid drums after relocating them to a new storage area.
2.3. Bulk Transfer
Move containers to another Principal Investigator (PI) or location.
You can find more information in our article on transfers.
Example
A construction site manager transfers all adhesives from one storage unit to another ahead of a new project phase.
2.4. Bulk Transition
Move containers to another Principal Investigator (PI) or location, with added safety acknowledgement.
You can find more information in our article on transitions.
Example
A biotech lab transitions hazardous gas cylinders to a new PI, requiring formal hazard acknowledgement before transfer.
2.5. Bulk Dispose
Dispose of multiple containers in a single workflow.
Example
An EHS lead in manufacturing disposes of expired corrosives after a quarterly safety audit.
2.7. Bulk Hazard Label
Create a PDF with:
- Barcode
- Chemical Name
- CAS Number
- Hazard Pictograms
Example
An industrial site safety officer prints updated labels for all oxidisers to comply with OSHA secondary container labeling rules.
2.8. Initiate Waste Req
Integrates with waste management software to generate Waste Requisition IDs for selected containers.
You can find more information on this feature in our article on initiating a waste requisition.
